Abstract
This study aimed to examine how ease of cigarette purchase among Korean adolescents is influenced by cigarette type. Data from the 14th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey were used. The study employed Propensity Score Matching(PSM), an experimental design, to maximize internal validity by minimizing selection bias. By means of PSM, a group using conventional cigarettes (n=133) and another group using e-cigarettes (n=133) were matched, resulting in a final sample size of 266. To identify factors influencing ease of cigarette purchase, a hierarchical regression analysis was conducted. The results showed that ease of cigarette purchase was higher among adolescents who had smoking peers and who drank more alcohol. Furthermore, the group using conventional cigarettes showed higher perception of ease of cigarette purchase than the group using e-cigarettes. The study results provide the basis for strategies for reducing ease of cigarette purchase in order to prevent and regulate adolescents¡¯ smoking behavior. Lastly, study implications for smoking prevention and anti-smoking policies and practices for adolescents are discussed.
